Tire alignment can be very important to maintaining the health of your vehicle. Tire alignment is usually pretty simple, despite what many tire experts claim. It is founded upon three basic measurements, camber, toe, and caster. However, if you have a newer vehicle, you will only need your toe adjusted, as caster and camber are no longer necessary with newer vehicles.

You may need a tire alignment if you’ve been noticing when driving that your vehicle is not driving evenly. If you notice this issue, you should see if you notice any issues with your tires that may not be pertaining to the tire alignment (such as a flat tire). If you deem that tire alignment is the issue, you should speak with a tire expert as soon as you can, as driving with unaligned tires can lead to major issues with your vehicle such as increased tire wear

Don’t blame yourself for the issue though, if your tires are unaligned, it usually means you hit something like a pothole or curb that forced them to become unaligned. The cost of the tires becoming properly aligned will far offset the cost of wrecked tires or a potential accident.

Let’s take a quick look at the three kinds of tire measurement, camber, toe, and caster. Caster is directly influenced by vehicle height, so you should keep your vehicle at the optimal height as much as possible. If one wheel has more caster than the other, it will pull towards the middle of the vehicle. If your camber is either too positive, or too negative, it may lead to excessive tire and suspension wear. Toe is simply the measurement of how far the tires are turned from their usual position. While the tires are turned outside, toe is negative, while turned inside, the toe will be positive. Toe is used to make sure the tires are parallel to each other. If your toe is uneven, it may result in unstable steering or excessive tire wear.
